Literary Analysis: Modernist Movement

In the spirit of Huxely, I decided to change course at the beginning of this week since I was unable to finish my Literature Analysis book I had originally started reading. We will be looking at Poets and Poems: Wallace Stevens- "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" e.e. cummings- "anyone lived in a pretty how town" This movement can be characterized as a revolution in science, global politics, technology, and literature. In the 20th century, more questions were asked and the experiments that coincided started to develop many of the ideas of the line of questioning that most people still consider the best. Revolutionary movements of sometimes a loss in faith in the government forced many writers to investigate our leaders and many people were shocked by the scandals that were uncovered. "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird", demonstrates cubism which is also used in Modernist architecture, i...

BRAVE NEW WORLD (II & III)

Infant Nurseries. Neo-Pavlovian Conditioning this was where the babies were 'conditioned' to have a fear of flowers and books through loud noises (sirens) and shock therapy Hypnopaedia - first used in A.F. 214 to continue moral lessons while the children sleep, this doesn't work for facts because the children blindly recite the facts not incorporate the ideas = the children's mind is suggestions about the caste system  Elementary Sex and Erotic Play young children are playing this suggests that this is something fun and to children fun = happy Note: (from class) the child who does not want to play is sent away to be fixed by a therapist References the boundaries of today's world where adolescents cannot have sex and the auto-erotism and homosexuality being frowned upon, terrible References family and motherhood also this story told though history and flows withing the story of Lenina Crown showing symptoms of emotional entanglement with one man ...

First Quarter Review

a) From starting the AP Bootcamp and being the one only to participate I feel that there hasn't been a lot of success thus far, however I am hopeful that as the AP exam creeps forward more people will join. I have reached the goals I have set for myself and been working on my Best Friend Project with Michelle by writing a narrative of how I pictured our last four years. b) This quarter I hope to have at least 5 more people join the club and continue to work on attaning a 4 on this English exam. That goal will be attained if I have to cut off a limb and sell it to the black market! I am gonna do it!!! c) I am still thinking about how I could incorporate what I am doing with Writinga5pectatorsport and I am going to follow suit with Michelle with the blog posts to compete with Josh.

Remix for Vocab

Well sorry if it was hard to hear in a few of these I was wearing my retainers! Hopefully this is a good way  for people to study, I like to sleep while listening every once in a while. (Reference to Brave New World.)

WRITINGAS5PECTATORSPORT

Bernardo Gonzalez - The essay is unfinished and is cut off in the middle of the second paragraph,  however we can see where he was going with the establishment of the feelings in the introduction  Next time a more detailed pre-write maybe could help in order to start and finish without leaving so much unsaid. Iliana Gutierez - Very detailed pre-write which I could only dream of producing. However I could not find the essay whether I am having technical difficulties I can only hope that it will soon be resolved. Pablo Nicasio - The essay didn't really relate to the prompt directly and there were only two paragraphs, so better luck next time. Michelle Crosby - I feel so proud of Michelle because she has always told me that she has a really hard time with in-class essays and this time she demonstrated real analysis of the material and related it to the prompt well. The essay was great and I can see she really enjoyed what she was writing, but ma...

Rosa Alvarez:  http://ralvarezrhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com/  ~No posts since December. Amanda Arnold:  http://alarhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com/ ~I really enjoy the chalkboard effect and most of her assignments are up there for everyone to see. Will Boerger:  http://wboergerrhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com  ~ Really demonstates his interests and most of his coursework is up on the blog. Rheanna Crawley:  http://rcrawleyrhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com/ ~ Plain however her coursework is complete and comprehensive about her understanding of the course. Good resource page. Michelle Crosby:  http://mcrosbyrhsenglitcomp.blogspot.com/  ~ Not all there, but really makes a strong contribution in personality on the blog and attempt at the coursework. Vince Cruz:  http://vcruzrhsenglitcom.blogspot.com  ~Not all there and I find the clash of design colors hard on the eyes. Maybe it's because I am not sleeping, but that doesn't affect that not all of th...

I AM HERE

Maybe... Today my great-grandmother passed away and I am still unsure about how I feel. But concerning the course I have been making great progress towards my SMART goals by starting up the AP bootcamp. The program is still small, but all in good time. So far we have written an essay and this next Friday we are going to do 12-15 multiple choice questions from a released Collegeboad exam. This is my saying I am still here and kicking.

Boot camp post #1

The time of my life

Sorry this took so long! It was Dads birthday so we have been spending time with family this weekend. But back to the assignment, this Friday I have decided how my first week of boot camp should go! Monday is an introduction and suggested readings from some textbooks I am using and Friday is going to be a really quick quiz of a certain poem with released questions from the collegeboard. I read though some materials and discussed my plan with Michelle. I hope we can go to the library to get our next literary analysis book! ;)
